ConnectedCharts: Explicit Visualization of Relationships between Data Graphics
نویسندگان
چکیده
Multidimensional multivariate data can be visualized using many different well-known charts, such as bar charts, stacked bar charts, grouped bar charts, scatterplots, or pivot tables, or also using more advanced highdimensional techniques such as scatterplot matrices (SPLOMs) or parallel coordinate plots (PCPs). These many techniques have different advantages, and users may wish to use several charts or data graphics to understand a dataset from different perspectives. We present ConnectedCharts, a technique for displaying relationships between multiple charts. ConnectedCharts allow for hybrid combinations of bar charts, scatterplots, and parallel coordinates, with curves drawn to show the conceptual links between charts. The charts can be thought of as coordinated views, where linking is achieved not only through interactive brushing, but also with explicitly drawn curves that connect corresponding data tuples or axes. We present a formal description of a design space of many simple charts, and also identify different kinds of connections that can be displayed between related charts. Our prototype implementation demonstrates how the connections between multiple charts can make relationships clearer and can serve to document the history of a user’s analytical process, leading to potential applications in visual analytics and dashboard design.

From Explicit to Implicit Surfaces for Visualization, Animation and Modeling
Deformable 3–D models are used extensively in Computer Graphics and Computer Vision for Visualization, Animation and Modeling. They can be represented either as traditional explicit surfaces, such as triangulated meshes, or as implicit surfaces. On one hand, explicit surfaces can easily be manually deformed by users, such as graphics designers, either directly by moving the mesh vertices or ind...
متن کاملAn Alternative Definition and Model for Knowledge Visualization
The term knowledge visualization has been used in many different fields with many different definitions. In this paper, we propose a new definition of knowledge visualization specifically in the context of visual analysis and reasoning. Our definition begins with the differentiation of knowledge as either explicit and tacit knowledge. We then present a model for the relationship between the two...
متن کاملA new approach for data visualization problem
Data visualization is the process of transforming data, information, and knowledge into visual form, making use of humans’ natural visual capabilities which reveals relationships in data sets that are not evident from the raw data, by using mathematical techniques to reduce the number of dimensions in the data set while preserving the relevant inherent properties. In this paper, we formulated d...
متن کاملInformation visualization by dimensionality reduction: a review
Information visualization can be considered a process of transforming similarity relationships between data points to a geometric representation in order to see unseen information. High-dimensionality data sets are one of the main problems of information visualization. Dimensionality Reduction (DR) is therefore a useful strategy to project high-dimensional space onto low-dimensional space, whic...
متن کاملWeb-Based Interactive Visualization of Data Cubes
Data Cube is an effective technique for data mining. Because of the complex relationships among aggregation values of a data cube, designing an efficient method or tool to visualize the complex relationships becomes a challenging work in the data cube technique. Information visualization with computer graphics can help improving this process. Recently, we developed a Web-based interactive data ...
